Born in Kyoto, Iroha is the youngest of three daughters in the family that owns the well-known Kiryuu wholesale company. Her grandmother is also a strict godmother. Iroha came to Tokyo for high school, and it appears that she currently lives there with her grandmother. She met Lilith while watching cosplayers being chased by the police late one night in Shinjuku. They happened to discover that they go to the same school, and hit it off immediately. Iroha got into IIDX through Lilith, and they play at about the same level (currently Light 7).
Iroha may seem like a pretty typical cheerful, outgoing high school girl, but in one sense she is the most unique of all the Shinjuku IIDX group. Her grandmother noticed her talking to people when no-one was around some time after they moved to Tokyo. After a while a lot of people began to suspect that Iroha had some sort of double personality ... when in fact she'd been posessed. The spirit now coinhabiting Iroha's body is none other than Sakura, a highly skilled IIDX player who passed away after falling ill. However, her fierce rivalry with Nyah, and the fact that she had never been able to win against her, made it impossible for her to pass on to the next world. Sakura is a much cooler, sharper personality, and her bold persona complements Iroha's much like Iroha's complements Lilith. (Sakura is much more outgoing than Lilith, however.) Whenever Sakura challenges Nyah using Iroha's body, she is able to hold her own for a long time, but eventually her level of play surpasses the physical limits of Iroha's body, and she loses. When the possession wears off, Iroha's fingers feel strange to her, and she talks in a different voice.
Only Lilith believes Iroha's story of possession, though Shem seems to have his doubts. By the way, Iroha speaks mostly standard Japanese (with some phrases specific to the Kyoto area), and Sakura speaks Kansai-ben. (Not too surprising for such a cool, rough personality.) Iroha's favorite phrase seems to be "Yaya wa~", a Kyoto-ism that pretty much means "Oh, wow!". Sakura likes to tell people "I'll smash you into pieces!"
