1. What's your handle? What name do you use on the high score screen?

Miz; JNFX (pre-9th) or -MIZ- (post-8th).

2. What's your age and sex?

21, 50 billion

4. Where do you usually play? Is it usually crowded?

There isn't an arcade close enough to me to play consistently at. However, I've played at FFC (Omaha, NE), 8 on the break (Dunellen, NJ), and TGA (Woonsocket, RI); 8 on the break was probably the most crowded as far as IIDX usage goes.

5. What date did you start playing IIDX?

Around 28 September 2003.

6. Your current level is ...

SP = 9dan on 8th CS, 8dan on just about everything else. I can pass everything on 7k except moon_child; I'm close to passing Linus[A7]. DP = 5dan.

7. Are you an arcade player or a CS player?

CS, but I play in arcades whenever I get the chance. (I own all the CS styles ... )

8. Do you play single play? Double play? Do you play primarily one-handed?

Mostly singles, since I don't have a consistent doubles setup. I play two-handed, but my play style relies mostly on my right hand. (I'm trying to "fix" that, since it's not going to cut it for flashing 8s, I think.)

9. What's more important to you? Clearing hard songs or getting high EX score?

Passing, generally, though scoring is important for a lot of songs too.

10. What made you start playing IIDX?

... I don't remember? o.o But I heard about it in 2002 or 2003 and thought it would be really neat. Then I got to play it at Otakon 2003 and got a home setup shortly thereafter.

11. What's your favorite IIDX style? What's your favorite song from each style (the "song of the style")?

Hmm ... as for style, I'll have to say "RED" w

12. Who's your favorite artist?

TaQ is the most consistent one.

13. What's your favorite genre?

For now, psychedelic trance.

At the moment, 1. moon_child 2. BRIGHTNESS DARKNESS 3. 雪月花

15. Do you have any songs you don't like playing but like the music for?

Tribal Master.

16. Is using the EASY mod cheating?

I don't use it myself, but I like playing with HARD sometimes.

17. What high speed level do you play at?

Usually HS3.

18. Ever died an instant death cause a fast song came on in a ranking course while you were on HS3?

More so on expert courses.

19. What do you think of autoscratch?

I don't.

20. Do you rush to build your combo back if you break it?

I like my combos!

21. Do you like jackhammers/long drills of same-key presses?

Not really.

22. Do you like scales/staircases?

They're okay.

23. Do you like chords (multiple keypresses at the same time)?

They're okay.

24. Do you like scratches?

Sure. I don't get people who hate scratching, though.

25. Do you like random, scattered patterns?

26. Do you like drumrolls?

Not particularly, but I don't really dislike them either.

27. Do you accidentally choose the wrong song by turning the turntable too far, or not far enough, at the song select screen?

Occasionally.

28. Do you mean to play BATTLE mode with two people, but sometimes forget to turn it on before entering the game?

Sometimes, but people don't play with me often.

29. Have you ever meant to play a song Another but selected Light? Have you ever done the opposite?

More the accidental Lights, I don't play Light.

30. Have you ever meant to pick Easy but picked Hard?

No.

31. To get better, you need to try your best.

Of course.

34. Do you usually play normal 7/14KEYS or EXPERT mode?

I usually play normal, but I do expert courses every once in a while.

35. What's the song you usually play most? What expert course?

Hmm. Hard to say.

36. How often do you play?

Several hours a day or several hours a week.

37. Ever wish you had another finger (or hand)? Or been able to see out your fingers? Or are you fine the way you are?

Ten regular fingers is fine, thank you.

38. Can you live without paper?

With the magic of VJ Army, yes!

39. There seem to be an unusual number of one-handed players recently. Do you play one-handed? If so, what level do you play at?

Not especially, though my play style relies pretty heavily on my right hand.

40. Are there too many insanely hard doubles songs?

6th style is 90% 7 stars in 14 Key ... x.x

41. Are there any songs you think have a wrong star rating?

There will be if they keep the new HAPPY SKY ratings ...

42. What song (like 5.1.1.) do you think is insanely different between its normal and another versions?

Spica maybe.

43. Have you been to a convention?

Otakon and A-kon. (Otakon's gaming was so much better, though, even without the laser tag.)

44. Have you placed on Internet Ranking?

No.

45. Pay much attention to the movies? Which ones are your favorite?

Reincarnation is one of the forgotten masterpieces of 2dx3.

46. What song were you happiest to have cleared?

Hmm ... A[7], G2[A] and R5[A], probably.

47. What score were you happiest to get?

G2[7] A, maybe. Holic[7] AA and Prince on a star[7] AAA (my first AAA) are up there, though.

48. What's the most mortifying song fail you've had?

78% Comment te dire Adieu[A] on FFC's IIDX RED. Just ... stupid, I don't know how it happened. x.x That and 78% on Clione[14], also at FFC.

49. How many play cards do you have? Which ones?

I have the Daruma/Tsugaru one that comes with 8th CS.

50. Do you want skill points, like in GF/DM?

... I've played GF and DM but I don't know what those are ;.;

51. Have you ever done anything painful, like jam a finger while playing, or catch your fingernail in the gap between the button and its frame?

I tend to break fingernails if I forget to clip them. I end up hitting that gap a lot on FFC's machine, too.

52. Does it help your score to have something tapping out the beat in the background, like someone clapping?

I tend to filter out other noises, but I sometimes keep an internal beat going.

53. How many people does it take around a cabinet before you start forming a line?

One

I have a C on VJ Army, but I've probably scored higher.

56. Have you ever failed because you thought a song was over before it was?

Once, I think. I did that the first time I played quasar, but I didn't fail.

57. Any songs you wish Konami would bring back?

A lot ... especially Reincarnation and empathy though.

58. The just great window from 10th on is smaller, isn't it?

It certainly seems to be.

59. How much will you spend on a game in a day?

Ah, for a close arcade with IIDX. I spent $20 in a day once.

60. How much have you spent on IIDX so far?

Counting Beatmania, something like $700.

61. Have you ever shouted at someone browsing the gallery or scores on an arcade machine in a game center?

Never seen it done.

62. Do you ever adopt weird posture sitting at an arcade machine? (Like crossing your legs, or hunching over the buttons ... )

Not particularly.

63. Was the addition of LIGHT mode the beginning of a new era?

Probably, but I'm not sure what it meant for me.

Right

Yes, but not as well.

For scratching and keypresses.

68. What style do you think Konami will release IIDX through?

They can't stop until Erika and Celica find out ... So at least 12th.

70. What do you think the ratio of boy IIDX players to girl IIDX players is?

5:1, perhaps. Judging by Bemanistyle, more like 30:1 ...

71. When did you have the impression of having improved the most?

Playing 250bpm[A] on a whim and passing it without too much effort.

72. When did you have the impression of having gotten worst?

Everytime I score 300 points lower than my high score ;.;

73. How do you deal with getting out of a slump?

Wait, then wait some more.

74. Which effectors do you usually use?

OFF, or REVERB3

75. Do you ever feel crowded when you're playing with someone else?

I'm not sure I've gotten to on an arcade machine, but it doesn't seem like I would.

76. Have you ever done session mode? (If you have, do you wish they'd bring it back?)

Ah, with a IIDX machine hooked up to a DDR machine? No, but I expect it'll happen in simulation some day. It'd be nice to try.

Hells yes, I have soundtracks for all the styles I own.

80. What's your secret to getting good at IIDX?

Playing obsessively, then going crazy.

81. Have you ever played a song so much it ended up in the ranking courses?

I remember doing that trying to AAA Comment te dire Adieu[7].

82. Do you find yourself playing the silver and bronze courses more than the platinum and gold?

I don't really play local ranking courses that much.

83. Without the gallery, there would be nothing to do.

I've AAAd songs just to get gallery pictures.

84. Do your shoulders and hips get stiff after playing?

Not really, but I get really hot.

85. Have you gotten someone hooked, or did someone else get YOU hooked?

I claim responsibility for getting RSAI hooked.

86. Have you ever played when you knew you shouldn't for some other consideration (like time, or money)?

... yeah ...

87. Does passing a song only once count, or do you have to be able to pass it consistently?

Passing once is an important step towards being able to pass consistently ... I don't really count it, for myself, unless I can pass somewhat consistently, though.

Note: anmitsu is a technique to cope with lots of keypresses very close to each other. For example, if you have to press 1, then 2, then 3, soon after each other, you instead press 1+2+3 at the same time. This gets you goods instead of greats, but continues your combo.

Eh. I don't do it too much, but slip into it occasionally...

In all of heaven and earth, there is only one me ...

90. Do you have any rivals?

Sadly, no.

91. Do you go to try a new release the day it comes out?

It'd be so crowded ...

93. How many friends that play IIDX do you also know from offline?

Three or four, but I guess I got them into IIDX ...

94. Have you ever met any online friends in person?

A few, but not IIDX players.

95. What are you most concerned with when you play?

Getting into the music, then passing and scoring. (Passing is more of a concern for flashings 8s, though, since they're so hard. The only flashing 8s I've passed are Max 300, Sakura, The Safari and Take It Easy; Take It Easy seems too easy to be an 8+ though.)

96. What makes you happiest about having played IIDX?

All the great music I've found and become aware of.

97. Are there any questions you didn't understand? Which ones?

98. What is your current, most immediate "goal" with regards to IIDX?

Beat moon_child[7] and Kamikaze[A].

IIDX is a wonderful game. But do remember the music behind the game. I hope there are people who get into music through IIDX. (Oh, what am I saying ... )
