By John E. Nordquist (Air: Where the Sunset Turns the Ocean's Blue to Gold).
They'll Soon Ring Out
We are looking for that time, When the bells of earth shall chime To proclaim a world of workers really free. I can see that joyous day Not so very far away And the vision puts a hopeful heart in me. I can see the wage slave free, With his children by his knee, And his darling wife is bubbling o'er with cheer; And the childish faces smile, Nothing can their joy defile, For they hear the bells of freedom ringing clear.
Chorus
Oh I hear those free bells ringing And the toilers all are singing, For the miseries of the past have flown away. And a worker's world I see, Where no misery can be; How I long to hear those bells on Freedom's Day. If you wish to speed those times, If you long to hear those chimes, Do your part in organizing all the slaves. If we're going to see that day You must help to clear the way; We must end the reign of cap'talistic knaves. We must capture industry, All the ships upon the sea- Ev'ry fact'ry, mine and mill, we're going to take. When the boss gets overalls, Then the cause of mis'ry falls And those sleeping bells of freedom shall awake.
